"Europe cannot replace United States": Borrell calls to change US decision to support Ukraine
The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has called on the United States to change its decision to support Ukraine, as EU assistance cannot replace American aid.
This is reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.
Borrell called the US decision not to include support for Ukraine in the temporary funding agreement bad news and urged the country to reconsider the issue.
"Ukraine needs EU support, and we are confident that we will have it and we will increase it, but Ukraine also needs US assistance. I hope, Ukrainians hope, and I think anyone who doesn't want Putin to win this war should look for ways for the US to reconsider and continue to support Ukraine," he said.
Borrell believes that European aid "cannot replace the US", but the EU will continue to expand its support.
"Europe is increasing its support. We have a proposal on the table for €50 billion on the civilian and economic side and €20 billion on the military side," he said.
Vote on the temporary budget and McCarthy's resignation
On 1 October, Joe Biden signed a bill to temporarily fund the government for 45 days, which was approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Prior to this, the White House President made a statement that the agreement did not include new funding to continue supporting Ukraine.
On 3 October, the House of Representatives dismissed Kevin McCarthy over accusations from fellow Republicans that he had compromised with Democrats, secured the adoption of a 45-day budget, and made a "secret deal" with Joe Biden.
