Ukraine’s Pokrovsk has no water, heating, and 40% of city without electricity
Russian forces are shelling residential areas of the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region and attacking civilian cars. The city is without water, heating, and is facing problems with gas and electricity supply
Serhii Dobriak, the head of the Pokrovsk City Military Administration, reported that a family was recently attacked by a drone while in their car. The family’s son was killed in the strike.
"People are being targeted, so it’s extremely dangerous to stay in the area," he said.
Currently, around 11,500 civilians, including 49 children, remain in Pokrovsk. However, the evacuation pace has slowed. While up to 1,000 people were leaving daily before, now only about 10 are evacuating each day, according to Dobriak.
"As of today, Pokrovsk is without centralized water supply, and in some areas, there is no gas and 40% of the city is without electricity," Dobriak said.
He added that there will be no heating season in the city this year. Instead, six heating stations will be set up for those who remain.
"These stations will operate in places without electricity, in sub-zero temperatures. However, due to security concerns, it’s not safe to gather people in one place. The only safe option to protect yourself and your family is to evacuate," Dobriak concluded.
- Military analyst Denys Popovych noted that Russian forces are likely to launch an offensive on Pokrovsk if Kurakhove falls.
