EU leadership understands that this is not only Ukraine's war - European Parliament member
The leaders of the European Union countries have a clear understanding that this is not only a Ukrainian war but also a European one. Therefore, the EU maintains its unity and determination in the issue of assistance to Ukraine
Ukrinform reports that during the 26th annual conference of Forum 2000 in Prague, the member of the European Parliament from Germany, the deputy head of the EU-Ukraine Committee on Interparliamentary Cooperation Viola von Cramon-Taubadel informed about it.
"The leadership of the European Union countries has a clear understanding that this is not only a Ukrainian war, it is a European war. Therefore, Europe today is united by common solidarity and responsibility for what will happen to Ukraine in the future," she emphasized.
Cramon-Taubadel noted that not all EU member states can help Ukraine to the same extent today, as there are different political forces in their governments with often different views on the war.
"At least in the EU institutions - the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Council - there is a clear understanding that this war can only be won by joint efforts," she said.
The European Parliament member emphasizes that, together with her colleagues, she is trying to convince EU leaders to increase aid to Ukraine.
"We constantly lobby for the provision of weapons, including heavy weapons, and financial aid to Ukraine. Weapons and money - nothing else matters today," she said.
However, the victory in the war and the rapid reconstruction of Ukraine also depend on the implementation of reforms, which must be continued despite the difficulties associated with the war. In particular, Ukraine should complete decentralization, reform the justice system and create a favorable business environment for attracting foreign business and investment to the country, Cramon-Taubadel says.
The European Parliament member emphasizes that in this case, after the end of the war, "all of us, together with the international community, European states and international business, will quickly rebuild Ukraine and restore normal life here."
