Danger from Moldova is present, but it can be minimized - diplomat Chaly
There is a set of issues in Moldova that could pose a danger to Ukraine if they are imposed on society
Diplomat Valeriy Chaly said this on Espreso TV.
“There are questions not only about how to use Russian-controlled Transnistria in the war. This is not a question yet, because it will be very difficult to deploy sufficient forces there in these conditions. What is available there is not enough to solve strategic issues. Nevertheless, destabilization in Moldova - the transition of power to a more pro-Russian regime or provocations on the border - also requires the concentration of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. This is a distraction of our efforts - especially now the Russian Federation really needs it. Secondly, it creates and will continue to create problems for our people who have taken refuge in Moldova or have moved on through it,” he said.
According to Chaly, there are many issues that can be imposed on Moldovan society through propaganda, information and psychological operations, and direct actions on the streets.
“Firstly, it is very important that the government and president of Moldova keep the situation under control. Secondly, the neighboring countries. Romania should play a greater stabilizing role in this situation. I do not absolve Ukraine of its responsibility - despite the war, Moldova is an important country and we will help, but we have a lot of efforts and resources going into defense on other fronts. The key issue is to maintain the status quo and prevent Russia's provocations. The second is, of course, for Moldova to decide, but this is an abnormal situation when uncontrolled military depots and troops of another country are illegally on your territory. This is a complex of issues - there is a danger from there. I think it is possible to minimize it,” the diplomat concluded.
