China's task is to freeze conflict and preserve Putin's regime – MP Honcharenko
China's task today is not to defeat Ukraine, but to freeze Russia's war against Ukraine and preserve the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko on the Espreso TV channel.
He noted that he was not very optimistic about the visit of Chinese Special Representative Li Hui to Europe.
"I don't think that China's goal is for Ukraine to win, unfortunately. I think that China's task today is to freeze the conflict and preserve the Putin regime. So how far we are on the same page with China and their proposals.... Well, we will see," Honcharenko said.
The MP added that in any case, it is important to maintain a dialogue with China. According to him, China is one of the key countries in the world, so it is a strange situation that there has been no Ukrainian ambassador there for three years, and he has finally been appointed.
"We need our ambassador to work in Beijing. Because it's an absurd situation when we had an ambassador and still have diplomatic relations with Lukashenko's Belarus, but we haven't found ambassadors for Beijing or Delhi. I don't know how to explain this," he said.
Honcharenko said that Ukraine should in any case use all means to prevent China from directly supporting Russia.
"At the very least, our task is to prevent China from directly supplying Russia with weapons or components for the manufacture of these weapons. This is a very important issue for us. We need to talk to China, explain our position. And at least to keep it from directly supporting Russia. I am not sure we can achieve more," Honcharenko concluded.
