Ukraine’s Zelenskyy comments on Trump's potential victory in US presidential election
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will build relations with Washington, regardless of whether Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the US presidential election
He said this during a press conference on July 15.
"We cannot discuss Trump's presidency yet. Because the president of the United States is elected, thank God, by their people. No other nations have any influence on this," Zelenskyy said.
He emphasized that Ukraine has support from both the Democratic and Republican parties. Kyiv has strong relations with the latter, which was confirmed during the president's visit to Utah during the NATO summit.
"I met with a lot of Republican governors. They treat Ukraine, the people of Ukraine, our soldiers, me with great respect, and I see that we will develop these relations regardless of the outcome, namely, the choice of the people of the United States in November. Therefore, I do not see any major threats here," he added.
According to the President, he understands the views of both presidential candidates on the end of the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that if Donald Trump becomes the next head of the White House, Ukraine will work with him.
"We are at war, we are emotional. And when there is uncertainty, and indeed the Republican Party is different, and there are hawks whose messages are more right-wing or more radical, I guess. But I want to tell you that the majority of the Republican Party supports Ukraine and the people of Ukraine," Zelenskyy added.
