Fire on Russian ship "Katerina Velikaya": 1 dead, 3 injured
The Russian Federation reported a fire on the multifunctional supply ship "Katerina Velikaya" at the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center in Primorye during the early hours of Monday, April 8. One person has died, and three others sustained injuries
This was announced by the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office.
The fire has been extinguished, with three injured individuals currently hospitalized and one fatality reported.
"Law enforcement agencies are conducting verification measures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident," stated the report.
The regional department of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation stated that the fire damaged a technological room measuring approximately 50 square meters on the "Katerina Velikaya" ship, according to Radio Svoboda's Russian service.
Fifteen units of fire equipment and 54 personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
For context: Ships like the "Katerina Velikaya" are designed to operate in challenging climates and can navigate through Arctic ice up to one and a half meters thick. They serve various purposes, including cargo transportation to sea facilities, ice-breaking operations, ice monitoring, rescue missions, escort duties, firefighting, towing large objects, and container transportation on the main deck.
The "Katerina Velikaya" was constructed for the company "Rosneft."
