Biden-Trump debate: it's going to be fun
What's going on with the US elections? And there are debates and a cool story about sharks
On June 27, the first of two debates between Trump and Biden will take place. You can watch it on CNN. The second is scheduled for September 10, on ABC. The first debate will take place in Atlanta, the largest city in Georgia, where the vote is fiercely contested. The candidates agreed on this back in May.
As the first televised battle approaches, the headquarters of both are preparing for this epic clash between the two yakuza. This debate is unlikely to be the highest-rated in history, but the attention to it is very high. Because both candidates are under the scrutiny of the audience due to their age.
“Debates are one of the few elements of the election campaign that are not 100% controlled by the candidates. Therefore, candidates try to use them as an opportunity to shake their opponent and demonstrate his vulnerability.”
Trump is inciting. He calls Biden the worst debater he has ever faced. He also says that he is ready to "debate corrupt Joe anywhere, anytime." Biden's campaign responds calmly and conservatively.
Ukraine is likely to be a secondary issue in these debates. Trump's position is not very strong, and it will be easy for Biden to defend himself. As for foreign policy, the topics of China, the Middle East, and the border with Mexico are likely to be prominent. The main domestic topics will include the economy, crime, social policy, abortion, etc.
The Biden campaign hopes the debate will allow their candidate to demonstrate Trump's vulnerability on controversial issues. Such as abortion, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
The Trump campaign is counting on the debate and Biden's propensity for hesitation to reinforce voter fears about Joe's age. Trump, 78, and his team have spent months discrediting Biden, 81, using real-life hesitations and footage of the president to edit a bunch of very specific content. It was supposed to prove that Biden could not walk or form coherent sentences.
However, Trump himself is not doing so well on the topic of old age and frailty. Last week he boasted that he had passed an intelligence test. But he got the name of the doctor who administered the test wrong. Before that, he confused Biden with Obama, and Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi. And in June, he told a "scary story" about a shark and an electric motorboat.
At a speech in Las Vegas, he said that when he was once sailing on a boat with an electric motor, he felt a panic attack. "I asked myself, 'What happens if the boat capsizes because the motor is too heavy and I'm in the water with sharks swimming 10 yards away? Am I going to get electrocuted when the water hits the battery? Should I stay in the boat at risk of electrocution, or should I jump into the sea with the sharks and not get electrocuted? I prefer death by electric shock, but I won't go near sharks." This story, which had nothing to do with the election, was a combination of two of Trump's phobias: fear of anything electric and fear of sharks. No one understood why he told it.
None of the candidates has published a comprehensive assessment of their mental health. And the physical one nominally allows them to do the job of president.
Who is the favorite in the debate? Who the hell knows. Trump is sure he is. Although the staff recommends that Trump be careful in assessing his upcoming "decisive victory" in the debate (because he might lose it), Donny can't help but keep repeating that Joe has no chance.
And when he tries to make amends, he explains Biden's possible "good form in the debate" by saying that the current president will be drugged with cocaine. The cocaine, of course, is a reference to the trial where Hunter Biden's cocaine use was proven. However, the court also proved that the family was doing everything possible to cope with their son's addiction.
In addition, in case of failure, Trump is hedged by the fact that CNN is a hostile media outlet. And both moderators - Jake Tappern and Dana Bash - will be against him.
It will be fun.
