USAID allocates over USD 12 million to women affected by Russian violence
USAID allocates USD 12.4 million to support vital services to people affected by gender-based violence
This is reported by UNFPA Ukraine.
"Women and girls caught up in hostilities face an increased risk of gender-based violence and abuse, including sexual violence and rape. Those fleeing in search of safety are exposed to new risks and dangers," the organization said.
In particular, USAID will finance centers for combating gender-based violence in 30 locations and the work of 60 mobile teams that will provide psychosocial counseling to the most vulnerable sections of the population throughout Ukraine. It will also provide funding for a national online platform to support victims of violence.
In addition, 20 communities will be able to develop and implement programs aimed at preventing gender-based violence and strengthening the effectiveness of mobile brigades.
"With the support of USAID, UNFPA will provide financial assistance to protect the well-being and dignity of pregnant and lactating women, as well as victims of gender-based violence," the organization adds. "In addition, women will have the opportunity to contact career centers for support and development of their economic independence, which will contribute to the prevention and mitigation of the consequences of gender-based violence".
