Ukraine plans to increase nuclear generation capacity: details
Ukraine, together with the American company Westinghouse, is working to increase nuclear generation capacity. This includes the construction of new power units
This was discussed at a meeting between Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and Westinghouse Electric Company CEO Patrick Fragman, the press service of the Ukrainian ministry reports.
"Thanks to Westinghouse, we were able to completely abandon Russian nuclear fuel. In September this year, the first Westinghouse fuel was loaded into the VVER-440 reactor of the Rivne NPP. This is the end of the Russian monopoly on this segment of the nuclear fuel market, which may open the way to quick sanctions against Rosatom," Halushchenko said.
In turn, Patrick Fragman noted that Westinghouse continues to work with the Ukrainian side to increase nuclear generation capacity. This includes the construction of new AR1000 power units, as well as the installation of small modular AR300 reactors, the first of which may appear within the next ten years.
