UK announces creation of maritime coalition to assist Ukraine: main tasks
The UK has announced the creation of a coalition to develop Ukraine's maritime capabilities: among its objectives are the safety of civilian shipping and the operation of the grain corridor
This is reported by the Ukrainian Navy.
It is stated that the coalition was created at the initiative of the United Kingdom. Its members will provide Ukraine with ships and equipment. They will also train the boat crews of the naval and river flotillas, marines, air defense, mine countermeasures units, etc.
One of the coalition's main objectives is to help Ukraine gain maritime supremacy. This will help ensure the safety of civilian navigation and eliminate the danger of mines, as the Black Sea is currently the most contaminated with explosive devices in Europe.
The ceremony announcing the launch of the coalition to develop Ukraine's maritime capabilities was attended by Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Grant Shapps, UK Secretary of State for Defence, Bjørn Arild Gram, Norwegian Minister of Defence, Admiral Stuart Benjamin Munsch, Commander of the US Naval Forces Europe, Admiral Sir Ben Kee, First Sea Lord, and representatives of many European countries.
"The sea is a big road and it should be equal for everyone, which is why we have to protect it and become such a powerful fleet that Russia will never have a desire to seize it again," the Ukrainian Navy Commander emphasized.
- UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said that if Russian President Vladimir Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, he will want more and will return “for more.”
