Scandalous revelations bring about conceptual revolution within US administration – Piontkovsky
In an interview with Studio West host Antin Borkovskyi, political scientist Andrey Piontkovsky suggested that the revelations of backroom 'diplomatic' talks with Moscow on Sullivan's behalf had weakened the position of those who are against Russia's defeat
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"Biden's speech at the General Assembly, and the next day, Blinken's speech at the Security Council, were no less impressive. I'll tell you, Zelenskyy is a good communicator, and he performed well, as always. But I would say that he was overshadowed by both Biden and Blinken. That is, the most emotional, most pro-Ukrainian, anti-Russian statements came from the American side. Blinken started it with his speech. He said that this horrific Russian aggression against Ukraine did not just challenge the international security system, it broke it. He also noted that we are in a situation of transition from one era to another," the political scientist commented.
Andrey Piontkovsky added that this is the same as when Churchill said in 1946 that the Soviet Union was enslaving the countries of Eastern Europe and putting the famous Iron Curtain over them.
"Biden, addressing the General Assembly, said: 'Putin is demanding a price for peace, which is the surrender of Ukraine, demanding Ukrainian territories, demanding Ukrainian children. If we meet him halfway and allow him to dismember Ukraine, then who among you, addressing and pointing to all the representatives of 200 states, will remain safe, who will be able to be sure of the integrity of their state?' American leaders have never used such rhetoric before. And in his last speech to the Security Council, Blinken focused on the war crimes committed by Putin in Ukraine and the fact that the only way to achieve peace is to defeat him," the analyst emphasized.
Piontkovsky summarized that this means the end of the two-year struggle of the US administration, every stage of which we have watched between the supporters of Ukraine's victory, Blinken and Austin, and those who were against the total defeat of Russia, Burns and Sullivan.
"We all thought that June and July were the most difficult months for Ukraine, that the views of Burns and Sullivan were winning. Do you remember how Minister Kuleba warned us back in early September that in the fall we would have to withstand terrible pressure from our partners in favor of a truce, a ceasefire, and real concessions? There is no pressure at all. And the miracle that happened in Washington is explained very simply: the scandalous exposure of the backroom so-called diplomatic negotiations that Russian agent of influence Tom Graham had been conducting in Moscow for decades on Sullivan's behalf. And on the other hand, it exposed the nature of the negotiations that Burns had in November 2021 in Moscow with Naryshkin and then with Putin. When he promised Putin that during Russia's aggression, he would do everything to ensure that Ukraine did not retaliate against Russian territory. Putin, you see, promised him in return that he would not spread aggression to NATO countries. These scandalous revelations, yes, sharply weakened the positions of Burns and Sullivan and allowed Blinken, a true and consistent friend of Ukraine, to carry out what I would call a conceptual coup within the US administration," the publicist explained.
