Russians enjoy Louvre visits while children are dying in Ukraine: Estonia demands EU ban on Schengen visas for Russians
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is drafting proposals for the European Union to stop issuing visas to Russians.
Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Urmas Reinsalu, made the statement, reports ERR.
"Russian citizens are now massively traveling across Russia's western border – through Finland, Latvia, Lithuania – to visit the Louvre in the summer, while children are being killed in Ukraine. This is certainly morally wrong," Reinsalu said.
According to him, the issue of visas for Russians was already discussed in the European Union in March, but at that time there were restrictions in Russia due to coronavirus, and trips were not as massive as now.
Reinsalu added that the Estonian Foreign Ministry wants to prepare proposals to the EU in the coming weeks.
"I have already raised this issue with the foreign ministers of Finland and Latvia, and we will, of course, consult with the governments of our region to find wider support for this initiative. We need all countries to be in favor. The situation now is different than it was in the spring,” - told Rainsalu.
In March, Estonia announced a temporary suspension of issuing tourist visas to Russians.
