Sinking of Rostov-on-Don submarine will force Russia to reconsider deployment of fleet in Crimea – UK intelligence
The damage to the Rostov-on-Don submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet will likely force Russia to rethink any plans to move significant naval forces to Crimea
This comes from a report by the British Ministry of Defense.
British intelligence states that the attack, accompanied by several drone strikes, likely involved ATACMS in Sevastopol.
They believe the Russian submarine may not have been fully repaired since the previous attack in September 2023.
The British Ministry of Defense describes this attack as the last chapter in the history of the submarine, stating that it would be more cost-effective to build a new one than to repair and restore this one.
Although this significantly boosts Ukrainian morale, it probably won't have much impact on Russian long-range naval strikes against Ukraine by the Black Sea Fleet, the report says.
Experts say the submarine strike highlights the growing risks for Russian forces in Crimea and will likely force Russia to reconsider any plans to move significant naval forces to the peninsula.
- It is noted that on August 3, it was reported that Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Rostov-on-Don submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and the Russian Federation's S-400 anti-aircraft missile system in occupied Crimea.
- Following this, partisans observed that Russian forces began inspecting the coast of occupied Sevastopol.
