Russia attacks Ukraine's power plants: 6 people injured, TPP and HPP damaged

At half past one in the morning on March 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the activity of Tu-95MS aircraft from the Olenya airfield (Murmansk region) flying in the southeast.

During Wednesday evening and on Thursday night, the Russian troops were launching Shahed drones from different directions, with strike UAVs reaching the western regions of Ukraine. There were also reports of a ballistic missile threat.

On the morning of Friday, March 28, cruise missiles from the direction of Sumy entered Ukrainian airspace, launched from Russian Tu-95MS.  Around 5:00 a.m., the Air Force reported the takeoff of three MiG-31Ks from the Savasleyka airfield.

Due to the massive shelling of Ukraine, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces has taken its own and allied aircraft into the air.

Attack on energy facilities 

The national energy company Ukrenergo reported that the Russian attack damaged thermal and hydroelectric power plants in the central and western regions of Ukraine.

It is noted that emergency shutdowns are currently in effect in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and hourly shutdown schedules are in place in the Kharkiv region.

Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that Russia had attacked facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Cherkasy regions. 

"The target of the attack with drones and missiles was, in particular, electricity generation facilities. Power engineers and rescuers are already working to eliminate the consequences," the minister added.

Later, Ukraine's largest private power company DTEK clarified that the occupation forces attacked three DTEK thermal power plants: "The equipment was seriously damaged. After the attack, the power engineers promptly began to eliminate the consequences. According to preliminary information, a power engineer was injured. The employee was immediately provided with the necessary assistance."

Air defense works in Lviv and Chernivtsi regions

At 2:50 a.m., the head of the Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, said that air defense was targeting Shahed drones that were trying to attack the Lviv region. According to Kozytskyi and the Air Force, residents of Stryi district should be especially cautious.

Around 5 a.m., the Russian troops launched Kinzhal missiles in the direction of Stryi.

Ruslan Zaparaniuk, head of the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, said that Ukrainian air defense destroyed Russian missiles in the region at night. 

"All the relevant services have arrived at the places where the wreckage fell. There were no casualties," he said in a statement.

Cherkasy region

Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, said that the Russians hit an energy infrastructure facility. The falling debris also destroyed a non-residential building and smashed windows in a private household. 

However, no one was injured.

Vinnytsia region

In the morning, the head of the Regional Military Administration Serhiy Borzov said that the Russian occupation army had hit a private house. There were no casualties.

Khmelnytskyi region

At 5:21 a.m., Suspilne and Ukrinform reported explosions in Khmelnytskyi region.

Explosions in the Ivano-Frankivsk region

At 5:35 a.m., Channel 24 reported the explosions in the Ivano-Frankivsk region on Telegram.

In the morning, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration, Svitlana Onyshchuk, said that Russian forces had attacked critical infrastructure.

"Fortunately, there were no casualties," Onyshchuk wrote.

Massive attack on Dnipro region

Russians attacked several critical infrastructure facilities in the region: "Details to follow! Do not help the aggressor to get oriented. I urge everyone to follow the safety rules. React to air raid alarms," wrote the head of the Dnipro Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak.

Later, Lysak added that a Russian attack resulted in a wounded man in the Kamianske district of Dnipropetrovsk region. The man was hospitalized in serious condition.

Around midnight, Russians launched a massive attack on the region using various types of weapons.

At 11:34 p.m., guided missiles were launched, at 11:37 p.m. - Shahed drones, and at 11:39 p.m. the Russian army struck with ballistic missiles from the temporarily occupied Crimea.

At 11:43 p.m., Suspilne correspondents reported explosions in Kamianske in the Dnipro region. A few minutes later, power went out in one of the city's districts. Several explosions were also reported in Dnipro.

At 5:05 a.m., Suspilne reported on Telegram about explosions in Dnipro, and at 5:13 a.m., about power outages in some areas of the regional center.

In the morning, Lysak reported that several energy facilities were damaged in Dniprovskyi, Kryvyi Rih and Kamianske districts. 

It is noted that Russia destroyed a cottage cooperative in Kamianske. As a result, five people were wounded. Among them are a 5-year-old child, women aged 19 and 47, and two men, aged 36 and 47, one of them in serious condition.

Kyiv region

In the morning, Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, said that no hits were made to residential or critical infrastructure. There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack. 

Instead, in some areas, operational services recorded the fall of debris from downed targets. In one of the territorial communities, 2 private houses were damaged by falling debris. In another community, a fence and an asphalt road were damaged by the debris. 

At 6:21 a.m., the Air Force reported that the threat was over.

  • On Thursday, March 28, Russian occupation forces opened fire on a taxi in Kherson. The attack killed the driver and injured two passengers.
