Peace Summit communique offers Ukraine no legal options – expert Lozovyi
Ivan Lozovyi, an international relations expert and lawyer, explained that the Peace Summit’s joint communique is not considered a legal document
He shared this on Espreso TV.
"The joint communique from the Peace Summit in Switzerland doesn't provide Ukraine with any legal options. It’s not a legal document. Monitoring foreign media, I found the summit was more of a PR success, with headlines highlighting over 100 countries in attendance and 80 signing the communique. The problem is, nothing concrete was decided," Lozovyi said.
The lawyer stressed that forums like these can feature statements from those who don't fully support Ukraine.
"If such summits continue as Zelenskyy plans and more specific issues are raised, we might see greater PR consequences for Ukraine. For example, discussing territorial concessions for peace. After all, these forums also give a platform to people who may not fully back Ukraine," he added.
- Following the second plenary of the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 16, a joint communique was signed by 78 countries and 4 international organizations.
- Espreso correspondent Tetyana Vysotska reported that two countries, under Russian pressure, withdrew their signatures from the communique.
