Hungary's Orban meets with Trump, discusses war in Ukraine as "peace mission"
On July 11, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with Donald Trump to discuss the "possibilities of peace" for Ukraine
Reuters reported the information.
A spokesman for the Hungarian prime minister said that Trump and Orban met at Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida "as the next stop of his peace mission."
"The discussion was about the possibilities of peace," Orban's spokesman said.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, commenting on Orban's self-styled "peacekeeping mission," said that Ukraine would be rightly concerned about any attempt to negotiate a peace deal without Kyiv's involvement.
"Whatever adventurism is being undertaken without Ukraine's consent or support is not something that's consistent with our policy, the foreign policy of the United States," Sullivan said.
Orban's self-declared peacekeeping mission has also angered many members of the European Union, which Hungary assumed the presidency of earlier this month.
The Hungarian embassy in Washington declined to comment on the planned meeting with Trump.
Orban participated in the NATO summit, where the Hungarian delegation expressed its rejection of key NATO positions, but did not block the Alliance's actions.

The head of the liberal group Renewed Europe, Valerie Hayer, called on the European Council to explore all means to deprive Hungary of the EU Council presidency, as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban "acts contrary to" the interests of the bloc.
