Ukrainian Ministry: Over 1,000 cultural heritage monuments damaged or destroyed by Russia
Between February 24, 2022, and March 25, 2024, the Russian Federation inflicted damage or destruction on 1,046 cultural heritage monuments in Ukraine, with the majority located in the Kharkiv region
This is according to the Ministry of Culture's press service.
A total of 128 monuments of national significance, 848 local monuments, and 70 newly discovered ones were affected.
These include 57 archaeological sites, 294 architectural landmarks, 312 structures related to architecture and urban planning, 66 sites related to architecture, urban planning, and history, 1 monument related to architecture and monumental art, 7 architectural sites with monumental art, 40 sites combining architecture and history, 221 historical landmarks, 5 urban planning sites, 19 sites combining urban planning with monumental and decorative art, 21 monuments of monumental art, 2 sites related to science and technology and architecture, and 1 site related to garden and park art.
The Kharkiv region suffered the most with 294 monuments damaged or destroyed, followed by Kherson (136), Donetsk (125), Odesa (123), and Chernihiv (70). The Kirovohrad region was the least affected, with only one monument impacted.
