BRICS summit in Kazan adopts final declaration, one paragraph mentions Ukraine
The BRICS leaders have adopted the final declaration of the summit, in which, in particular, they mentioned ‘national positions on the situation in Ukraine’
This is stated in the text of the declaration.
‘We recall the national positions on the situation in and around Ukraine, as outlined in the relevant forums, including the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly,’ the declaration reads.

The BRICS countries noted that all states should act in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter ‘in their entirety and interrelatedness’.
‘We note with satisfaction the relevant offers of mediation and good offices aimed at ensuring a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,’ the declaration added.
Reaction of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to the paragraph of the BRICS summit declaration in Kazan dedicated to Ukraine. It noted that this text ‘actually shows that Russia failed to “export” its neo-imperialist views on changing the world order to the BRICS summit participants’.
‘The Declaration demonstrated that the BRICS as an association does not have a unified position on Russian aggression against Ukraine. We are convinced that this is due to the support of the absolute majority of these countries for the goals and principles of the UN Charter, as also stated in the statement,’ the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine added that such support is incompatible with support for aggression or border changes by force, and therefore incompatible with support for Russia and its aggressive war against Ukraine.
About the BRICS
On October 22, the BRICS summit under the Russian presidency started in Kazan. Delegations from 36 countries, including 22 heads of state, attended the meeting.
At the BRICS summit, Vladimir Putin held a series of meetings with officials and representatives of other countries. Russian propagandists wrote that the BRICS member states had agreed on a ‘wording’ regarding Ukraine. Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, announced that this ‘wording’ would be included in the final declaration of the summit.
It should be noted that Brazil, Russia, India, and China are the founders of the BRICS (BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa). The creation of BRICS was initiated by Russia.
The group is not an official multilateral organization, such as the UN, the World Bank or the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The heads of state and government of the participating countries meet annually, with each country assuming a one-year presidency of the group.
