Russia creates “law enforcement“ groups from locals in occupied territories
Russian authorities have announced the creation of “Cossack societies” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Members of these societies will be involved in “law enforcement” activities
The head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov reported the information on July 18.
He noted that involvement in the so-called law enforcement means filtering in the settlements, which, according to him, will eventually lead to service in the Russian army.
“They are increasing the number of 'militias'. Since the locals are not eager to join, Russia is forming militant groups from the territories occupied in 2014. According to the National Resistance Center of Ukraine, the main task of these illegal armed groups is to control the residents of the temporarily occupied territories,” the head of the Military Administration said.
According to Fedorov, voluntary service in the Russian army is a crime, and those who do so will be punished. However, those who are forcibly mobilized are considered victims and will not be punished.
