Reznikov states that Ukraine is basically NATO's eastern flank, protecting civilized Europe from barbaric Russia
Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that Ukraine already fulfills the function of NATO's eastern flank, defending democratic, civilized Europe from barbaric Russia
Voice of America writes about it.
According to Reznikov, it is important for Ukraine to defend Europe, and this is not just an idea but a reality. Ukraine already serves as NATO's eastern border, protecting democratic and civilized Europe from Russia.
During the summit in Vilnius, it is hoped that the bloc will clearly outline the conditions and process for Ukraine to become a full member of NATO.
"We have made significant progress in our fight against Russia through our collaboration with NATO member countries. We have acquired a wide range of weapons and equipment. We have established complex logistical routes from NATO nations to Ukraine and organized training programs in NATO countries. We will continue to strengthen this cooperation," stated the Ukrainian Defense Minister.
Reznikov also confirmed the goal of achieving maximum compatibility with NATO by following their standards.
"Our objective is to fulfill all responsibilities within the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ensuring that Vilnius has the necessary political space for decision-making at the head of state level," added the minister.
On Thursday, June 15, Reznikov will participate in the official meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission, attended by defense ministers.
Ukraine's NATO membership:
A meeting of NATO countries will happen in Vilnius in July. Ukraine hopes to receive clear decisions about joining the Alliance. On May 23, Ukraine's ambassador to NATO, Natalia Galibarenko, mentioned that Ukraine is preparing two cooperation plans (political and practical) to discuss during the NATO summit.
On May 30, Dmytro Kuleba presented "three steps for a successful Vilnius summit": strengthening Ukraine-NATO ties, progressing towards Ukraine's NATO membership, and providing security guarantees on Ukraine's path to NATO.
On June 10, Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Havrylov, expressed his belief that the July NATO summit in Vilnius will establish the process for Ukraine's entry into the Alliance.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that Ukraine will become a NATO member in the future, but due to the ongoing war, specific dates for accession cannot be determined. However, he is confident that during the Vilnius summit, the member countries will work towards finding a solution regarding Ukraine's progress.
