Zelenskyy’s party leader present at Trump's inauguration: what it implies
Davyd Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People party, attended the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump on January 20, sparking optimism about future U.S. support for Ukraine
Independent reported the information.
Arakhamia became one of the few foreign high-ranking officials allowed into the Capitol Rotunda after the inauguration ceremony was postponed due to freezing temperatures.
His presence at the inauguration was made possible after he attended the Stars and Stripes & Union Jack party on the Friday before the event.
The party, with Nigel Farage as the guest of honor, was organized by Washington DC political fixer Gerry Gunster and Brexit supporters Andy Wigmore and Arron Banks, who have close ties to the administration.
The outlet noted that Arakhamia's attendance was an important signal for Ukraine, indicating Trump's intent to establish productive relations with Kyiv. According to sources, "This was a very significant move and shows the intent of Donald Trump to ensure that Ukraine gets a good deal at the end of this process. It should calm some nerves."
Later, in an interview with Ukrainian media, Arakhamia revealed that he expects an official Ukrainian delegation to meet with the U.S. president next month.
"We are now working to ensure that the relevant meetings are held at the inter-parliamentary level and other levels," he noted.
The outlet added that this optimism is especially significant in light of recent statements by Trump, in which he described Zelenskyy as "no angel" and partially blamed him for the war with Russia, while the new White House administration suspended any foreign aid outside of Israel and Egypt.
- On January 22, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Russian leader Vladimir Putin to strike a deal to end the war in Ukraine. In case of refusal, he warned Russia of high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on all exports to the United States.
