Poland sends diplomatic note to Germany regarding war reparations
Germany's Foreign Affairs Ministry has received a diplomatic note from Poland regarding the payment of reparations for damages caused to Poland during the Second World War
This was announced by the representative of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Christopher Burger, at a briefing on October 5, Ukrinform reports.
He stated that a response to the letter would be provided "through the prescribed diplomatic channels" after its detailed study.
The representative of the federal government of Germany, Christine Hoffmann, noted that during Poland's accession to the EU, certain agreements on reparations were confirmed and that Germany feels obliged to them.
"But Germany also feels its duty not to forget the moral consequences of Nazi rule," Hoffmann emphasized.
According to her, the federal government "is very aware" that Nazi Germany during the Second World War caused great suffering to Poland and killed more than a million people. The government is also aware that the attack on Poland was the beginning of this crime.
"But it is not about putting a line under history, from Germany's point of view, this is impossible," said the representative of the federal government of Germany. She also emphasized that the issue was resolved in accordance with international law.
