Russia adjusts tactics in use of Shahed drones — military expert Zgurets
Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and Defense Express CEO, points out that Russia is integrating Shahed UAVs with lower-cost drones and decoy drones in its attacs
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"We are observing an increase in the number of unmanned drones Russia employs in its attacks. Specifically, Russia launched over 2,000 Shaheds last month. While we classify these drones as Shaheds, we understand this category includes Geran-2 drones, classified as the Shahed 136, as well as Gerberas and Parodies, which are cheaper models used to carry out large-scale attacks. This situation places a constant strain on our mobile operational units, air defense systems, and aviation tasked with neutralizing these targets," explained the military expert.
He noted that, compared to the previous month, the number of Shaheds deployed by Russian forces has risen by approximately 25%, along with changes in the tactics for using these drones.
"The enemy is deploying Shaheds in waves that include both strike drones and decoy drones, which act as false targets—this tactic is now actively in use. In terms of countermeasures, our interception rate remains strong. During the nighttime attack on the capital on November 4, we managed to down 50 out of 80 drones, with 27 identified as decoy drones that disappeared from our radar systems. For now, our air defense systems are effectively countering these combined tactics. Meanwhile, a parallel effort is underway: the enemy is increasing the number of attacking and distracting drones, while Ukraine is ramping up its countermeasures," summarized Serhiy Zgurets.
- The press service of the Ukrainian Air Force informed that during the night of November 4, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with bombs, drones, and ballistic missiles. Ukraine's defenders managed to destroy 50 Russian drones.
