Macron says he will talk to Putin if he calls, but won't call himself
French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he would pick up the phone if Russian President Vladimir Putin were to call him, but he himself would not initiate the call
He made the statement in an interview with the French TV channels RFI, France 24 and Franceinfo.
"I believe that first Russia needs to stop the war and adhere to international law. Of course, I will pick up the phone (if Putin calls - ed.). However, as of today, I have no reason to call him," Macron said.
The French President also reminded that Ukraine's counteroffensive is underway. He expressed hope that the time would come for negotiations on Ukraine's terms.
"If he were to call me to offer something, I would pick up the phone. France has always been a country that helps solve problems and acts as a mediator. However, we need to be clear that resuming dialogue is currently impossible, as there is no respect for international law," Macron emphasized.
