Lavrov says Russia receives signals from West for diplomatic settlement in Ukraine

According to Lavrov, some political analysts with connections in Washington and Brussels are sending signals to the Kremlin about a diplomatic settlement in Ukraine, but Moscow is not satisfied with them.

“I can say, without disclosing details, that from time to time, some political scientists who have connections in the capitals of NATO countries send signals through their political science channels that 'we need to end it all,' 'we need to go to the 1991 line,' and that 'Crimea is not ours either. Is this diplomacy? First of all, these are ultimatums and blackmail. Secondly, this is a complete misunderstanding of our position, our people and the reality that has developed and is being consolidated on the ground,” Lavrov said.

He also said that there are currently no contacts between Russia and the US at the level of foreign ministers, but other diplomatic channels between Moscow and Washington are working.  

“We do not communicate at the ministerial level. Sometimes the White House calls Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and sends the same signal: release Paul Whelan, and now journalist Evan Gershkovich,” Lavrov said.
