Humanity must have insurance against hunger - Zelenskyi proposes democratic food exporters' organization

He said this during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi noted that any response to the famine is too late. It must be stopped until it begins. However, now the world does not have such a tool.

And we propose to create an organization of responsible and democratic food-exporting states that can act with respect for human rights and global trade rules. Our motivation is very simple: no matter what the turning points in human history, there must be insurance against hunger. And Ukraine is ready to provide a platform for the activities of such a new organization, which is definitely needed  -the President stressed.

On May 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that world politicians were discussing a possible famine in a number of countries over the Russian-blocked sea for Ukrainian wheat exports.

On May 14, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine was doing everything possible to export food to Africa, but Russia should stop undermining global food security.

On May 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine's security would allow the food market to recover, and that supporting the country meant preventing global hunger.

On May 17, the United States announced its readiness to allocate $ 11 billion to avoid a global famine caused by Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

On May 19, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia of deliberately using hunger as a weapon.
