Heroic 58th Brigade left their weapons, thanks to which we created partisan units - local mayor
The mayor of Konotop, Artem Semenikhin, said that Ukraine's heroic 58th Detached Motorized Infantry Brigade left weapons carefully stored in warehouses, enabling locals to later create partisan units and put up a valiant resistance to the invading Russian forces
He shared the details with Espreso TV.
"Thanks to the fact that the fighters serving with the 58th Detached Motorized Infantry Brigade deliberately did not remove weapons from their warehouses. They left them for ordinary people. Thanks to this, we armed people, creating partisan units. People left, went out at night, appeared in various places, encountered the occupiers and even left "gifts" for the Russian forces. The partisans did everything possible to ensure that as few Russian tanks as possible reached Brovary," Semenikhin noted.
The Konotop mayor added that soldiers serving with the Ukrainian Armed Forces left their base and went to defend the capital of Ukraine.
"At the beginning of the full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine, the 58th Brigade was ordered to occupy the defense line in Chernihiv Oblast to prevent Russian forces from entering Kyiv. Territorial defense fighters joined the brigade. Civilians found themselves alone with the Russian enemy, but thanks to the 58th we managed to hold out thanks to the Brigade's weapons," Artem Semenikhin said.
