Erdogan announces decision on NATO membership that may shock Sweden
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Ankara may approve Finland's accession to NATO separately from Sweden and shock Stockholm
Anadolu Agency reports.
Erdogan claims Sweden has not fulfilled Turkey's requirements for joining NATO and has not yet extradited 120 people whom Ankara considers terrorists.
He has an opinion that Sweden authorities do not know Turkey, its principles and traditions at all. He added that this is not the Turkey that was dictated to 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Sweden has pledged to extradite 120 terrorists hiding on its territory. We are waiting for the fulfillment of these obligations," Erdogan said.
He urged that Finland "should not make the same mistake."
"We may respond differently to Finland if necessary. Sweden would be shocked when we respond differently to Finland," Erdogan promised.
