Kyrylo Budanov, chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, says that relations with Russia will be difficult after the war, and Ukraine should move toward NATO and the EU to protect itself from new aggression

Budanov said this in an interview with Wirtualna Polska, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported on Telegram.

According to him, establishing relations between Ukraine and Russia will be a difficult process in the future.

“Nowadays, the Russian information space, primarily on the Internet, as well as among some of the opposition, is beginning to propagate the idea that only the 'Putin clique' should be blamed for this invasion. And society has nothing to do with it. However, we are at war with a country where more than two-thirds of the population supported Putin's actions. We don't know what the future of Russia will look like. We do not know how many parts it will break up into and with whom we will have to talk about reparations and prosecution of those responsible for crimes,” Budanov said.

He expressed his belief that Ukraine's task is to systematically weaken the Russian Federation, for which it should actively join Euro-Atlantic and European structures - political, economic, security, legal, humanitarian and educational.

“And to forget about our post-Soviet period as if it were a bad dream. Finally, we must have some form of control over the new post-war Russian Federation. So that what happened to Ukraine never happens again,” Budanov said.

He noted that he currently sees destructive processes taking place in Russia.

“We see changes in the Russian state itself. The ones that emerged after the full-scale invasion, after the imposition of sanctions and after thousands of black bags with the bodies of Russians killed in Ukraine returned home. All of this works because it gradually destroys Putin's regime and undermines it every day,” Budanov is convinced.

  • On January 4, Kyrylo Budanov said that Russia is no longer a military threat to the world and called the Putin regime a laughingstock.
