Blackouts in Kyiv may last longer with frost onset
Dmytro Sakharuk, the CEO of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, said that power outage periods might last longer in Kyiv
Sakharuk said this on the air of the Ukraine’s United News telethon.
In particular, he noted that current consumption would increase when the temperature drops.
"Approximately 5-7 degrees of temperature drop is 10% of consumption on the Ukrainian territory on average," he said.
According to Sakharuk, if specialists do not have time to repair and increase the capital's electricity supply volume, then the blackouts may last longer.
DTEK will decide how to provide electricity as often as possible without overloading the power system, even during frosts. However, he is not ready to say what intervals of blackouts Kyiv residents should expect.
He also noted that the burden on the system and the deficit would grow. If Ukrenergo increases the possibility of electricity supply, DTEK will try to reduce the time during which citizens will be left without electricity.
