Ukraine's enegry sector receives €100 million EU grant: allocation plans
The European Union has allocated €100 million in grants to NPC Ukrenergo for restoration and protection efforts
This was reported by the company's press service.
The grant agreement for €100 million was signed on July 18 by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of NPC Ukrenergo, and Lorenz Gessner, Head of the German State Development Bank KfW's Representative Office in Ukraine. The signing was attended by Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak and members of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
The European Commission has authorized KfW to allocate funds from the EU's special budget program, the Ukraine Investment Facility, to Ukrenergo for several priority energy projects, including:
- Modernization of high-voltage substations in western Ukraine and development of interconnectors with continental Europe's power system;
- Repair and restoration of equipment damaged or destroyed by Russian attacks at high-voltage substations, along with the purchase and delivery of new equipment;
- Measures to enhance the physical protection of Ukrenergo's substations.
The company notes that this grant is the second phase of the targeted program “Reconstruction and Restoration of Ukraine's Electricity Transmission Infrastructure”. On June 11, during the Berlin Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine (#URC2024), Ukrenergo signed an agreement with KfW on the first phase of the program amounting to €15 million.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukrenergo has attracted international assistance totaling €1.5 billion, including €324 million raised with the support of KfW.
