South Korea may send troops to Ukraine if North Korea enters war - military expert
Defense Express expert Valerii Riabykh believes that if the DPRK decides to help Russia by deploying its troops to the frontline, South Korea may also deploy its units to Ukraine
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
"The appearance of any North Korean armed forces units on the front line will require increased attention," explained Valerii Riabykh. "Under the guise of engineering units from North Korea, other units might be deployed to carry out different tasks, specifically those aimed at gaining real combat experience."
According to Riabykh, Ukraine's partners should respond decisively if North Korean units are transferred to the frontline.
"It is not yet confirmed that North Korea will transfer its military units to Ukraine. However, if this happens, it should prompt a strong response from our partners. If North Korean troops appear in Ukraine, not only NATO instructors should be sent to the front line, but South Korea might also consider sending its military units to assist Ukraine," he added.
- On June 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea at the invitation of its president Kim Jong Un. The countries signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement that includes mutual assistance in case of an attack on either signatory. Additionally, the North Korean leader expressed 'unconditional support' for Russia in its war against Ukraine.
- Later, South Korean National Security Advisor Chang Ho-jin has said that the country "will not be bound by anything" to help Ukraine if Russia transfers precision weaponry to North Korea.
