Zelenskyy in The Hague about tribunal for Putin: We must transform experience of Nuremberg process into new rules
During his visit to the Netherlands, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a speech at the International Criminal Court in The Hague
This is stated in the broadcast of the speech.
"I want to announce one number - 6139. This is the number of war crimes committed by Russians this month alone. This resulted in the deaths of 207 civilians, including 17 children. More than 400 civilians were injured during this period," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader noted that there must be accountability for war crimes and this can only be achieved through the tribunal.
"Europe and the world have already dealt with something similar, while we saw the result in the conclusions of the international tribunal in Nuremberg. We must transform the experience of the Nuremberg process into new operational rules. We want to continue the tradition of mandatory punishment for such crimes of aggression as a guarantee of not repeating such aggression. If we want justice, we should not look for excuses, we should not refer to the shortcomings of the current international law. Sustainability of peace results from full justice, in particular, the sentence against the aggressor," the President of Ukraine said.
Zelenskyy thanked the International Criminal Court and added: "One single constitution is able to respond to the primary crime - the crime of aggression. This is a tribunal. This is a tribunal, not something hybrid."
