Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant off the grid due to Russia shelling
On November 2, Russian troops damaged the last two high-voltage communication lines of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which connected it to the Ukrainian power system.
Energoatom, Ukraine’s state enterprise operating all nuclear power plants, informed about the shelling of the NPP on Telegram.
The statement said that at 11:04 p.m. on November 2, the station went into full blackout mode. All of the 20 diesel generators activated.
"Currently, the power supply scheme of the Zaporizhzhia NPP's own needs is optimized, 9 diesel generators are left in operation. Power units 5 and 6 are being cooled down," Energoatom reports.
There is only 15 days of fuel left for full operation of the station.
"The countdown has begun," says Energoatom.
Due to Russian occupation and interference of Rosatom (Russian state atomiс energy corporation) representatives in the operation of the ZNPP, the Ukrainian side's ability to maintain the plant in a safe mode is significantly limited.
"Once again, we appeal to the international community to urgently take measures to demilitarize the ZNPP as soon as possible, withdraw all Russian military personnel from the territory of the plant and the city of Energodar, and return the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the full control of Ukraine for the sake of the safety of the whole world!" the company said.
