Zelenskyy names date and venue for first peace summit
On May 2, President Zelenskyy announces Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16, with global government representatives attending
He wrote about this on the social network X.
“In accordance with our agreements with Swiss President Viola Amherd, the first peace summit will be held on June 15-16 in Burgenstock, near the city of Lucerne in Switzerland. Heads of state and government from all continents are invited and expected to participate,” the statement said.
According to the President, the summit will become a platform for discussing ways to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. He added that all states invited to the summit have demonstrated their commitment to these principles.
Zelenskyy also expressed confidence that every peaceful country is interested in participating in the summit, as it holds significant importance not only for Ukraine.
"This concerns the global role of each country, as well as genuine respect for international law and peaceful coexistence worldwide. These shared rules, enshrined in the UN Charter, protect all countries from aggression and violence. Therefore, our collective global duty is to defend them with real actions, not just words. This will be the focus of the first Peace Summit in Switzerland," emphasized the head of the state.
- On the eve, the Federal Council of Switzerland also referred to June 15-16 as the dates for hosting the Global Peace Summit at the request of Ukraine.
