World congratulates Ukraine on 33rd anniversary of Independence
On August 24, Ukraine celebrates its 33rd Independence anniversary, with political leaders worldwide extending their heartfelt congratulations
World leaders wrote congratulations on their pages on social network X.
United Kingdom
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, expressed his congratulations.
“Britain will always stand with Ukraine. On your day of independence, we share a clear message: We will continue to stand with you – because that is what the people of Ukraine deserve. Slava Ukraini,” he emphasized.
The Foreign Office of the United Kingdom also congratulated Ukraine, promising to support our country “for as long as it takes.”
“33 years ago, the Ukrainian people chose independence from the Soviet Union. Today, Ukraine is a sovereign state, standing against Russia's attempts to destroy its national and cultural identity. The UK will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes,” the ministry emphasized.
Moldova
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, also joined the congratulations, writing “Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!” in Ukrainian.
“On Ukraine’s Independence Day, we celebrate the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Your fight for freedom is a beacon of hope for all who cherish democracy. Moldova stands with you, today and always,” she promised.
The Netherlands
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, also congratulated Ukraine on the 33rd anniversary of its independence, promising to help Ukraine not only on this day but on any other.
“Your struggle shows that independence can never be taken for granted. It is something worth fighting for. But no one can do that alone. And you don’t need to. Ukraine can continue to count on the Netherlands. Not only today, on Independence Day, but every day,” he noted.
Austria
Austrian Ambassador Arad Benkö also recorded a video greeting. In a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, he spoke in Ukrainian and even quoted Viacheslav Chornovil's words that “independence is not only a flag and an emblem, but above all, faith in oneself.”
“Dear Ukrainian friends, I congratulate you on the anniversary of Ukraine's Independence. This special day marks three decades of your incredible journey to freedom and self-determination,” he emphasized.
Ireland
Ambassador of Ireland Thérèse Healy also congratulated Ukrainians on the holiday.
She expressed confidence that despite current challenges, Ukraine is now stronger, more united, and more assured in its path than ever before. She extended her congratulations to Ukrainians and Ukraine, emphasizing that Ireland will continue to stand with them in partnership and friendship, and looks forward to the day when Ukraine wins the war, rebuilds, and becomes a member of the EU.
Ursula von der Leyen
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also recorded a video greeting.
“Europe will always be at Ukraine’s side, because Ukraine is Europe. Your freedom is our freedom. Your security is our security,” she emphasized.
Lithuania
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day and promised to remain our strongest supporter.
“Happy Independence Day, dear friend Volodymyr Zelenskyy and brave people of Ukraine! In Lithuania, we have no doubt that Ukraine will win, become a member of the EU and NATO, become stronger and more prosperous. Lithuania will continue to be your strongest supporter. You can always count on us,” he emphasized.
Estonia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia also joined the congratulations.
“Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!While in many countries Independence Day is a solemn and carefree holiday, for Ukraine it means yet another day of fighting for keeping their independence alive. Estonian and Ukrainian flags are flying alongside in Estonia today.Together to victory,” the agency noted.
NATO
NATO also congratulated Ukraine on its Independence Day. “Today Ukraine marks its Independence Day. More than 900 days have passed since Russia’s full scale invasion. Until Russia’s guns fall silent, we won’t be silent,” NATO promised.
Poland
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, in particular, wrote words of congratulations.
“Congratulations to Ukraine on the occasion of your Independence Day! Poland stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian nation and wishes you strength, resilience, and victory in the fight against the aggressor. Happy Independence Day, Ukraine,” the agency noted.
