How Hollywood has led Americans to think about female president
Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump in three swing states - Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin
The shift temporally occurred after Kamala Harris chose Tim Walz as her future vice president. He is a very normal guy.
But I'm not even interested in that, I'm interested in what's happening with Trump right now. If you read the American press, you'll see that for every article where Trump flirts with voters, for example, by cutting taxes for restaurateurs, there are at least five articles discussing how Trump has somehow misrepresented Kamala or stupidly distorted her name.
In general, while Harris is mentioned more positively, Trump appears in the media because of scandals.
It got to the point where his headquarters began to wonder why Vance was not mentioned for his attacks on cat owners. They could have avoided this and chosen someone else to be his vice president (you really have to be a complete idiot not to know that cats are sacred. And Vance hasn't been reminded of his attacks on universities yet).
“In short, instead of flirting with voters, Trump is systematically falling into the "your Harris is an idiot" mode. Moreover, he's starting to attack his own people - last week he was accusing the governor of Georgia of leaking his campaign.”
The NYT published an article about Trump's meeting with his biggest campaign supporters in Bridgehampton. The article is titled Inside the Worst Three Weeks of Donald Trump's 2024 Campaign.
The article does not list dishes and wines, and it does not even paraphrase any interesting quotes. But there is a mood of confusion, when a candidate who, a month ago, after the assassination attempt, seemed to have already won the campaign, is now systematically failing in every attempt. And instead of flirting with the voters and telling them how he will make America "great again," he talks about a “nasty bitch.”
The article also says that Trump and his entourage are starting to target not only governors but also sponsors. For example, Miriam Adelson is the widow of a gambling business owner who spends millions on Trump's campaign.
Adelson received a couple of disgruntled texts saying that her people were somehow not working as hard for Trump's campaign. The candidate's entourage is said to have been prompted by former Marvel Entertainment executive Ike Perlmutter.
“In short, a very toxic internal squabble, seasoned with a desire to replace technologists. But Trump is against it.”
And it seems to me that these moments are not accidentally leaked to the press.
People know how to run campaigns against weird guys.
By the way, the same NYT published a column saying that by using the expression weird guys, Tim Volz got right into the milk, because it is the weird guys who are currently attracting the most interest. From the point of view of mass culture, the author may be right. And this explains the popularity of people like Trump and Musk.
But I was reading the column with a straight face until I came across a photo of a strange Barbie from last year's Greta Gerwig movie.
And then I got stuck. Because even though I didn't like the script at the time, Gerwig played the characters very skillfully. It still seemed to me that Hollywood hadn't done enough to create the right ground for a woman president of the United States. But... maybe Gerwig did it very quietly?
