Main challenge for Ukrainian forces is halting Russia's advance on Kurakhove — military expert
Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and CEO of the media and consulting company Defense Express, shared his analysis of the situation in the Pokrovsk direction

He discussed this during a broadcast on Espreso TV.
"Actually, the Russian army's advance near Kurakhove has slowed down since they captured the Kurakhove TPP and pipe factories. Even in General Staff reports, the Kurakhove direction is now referred to as the Pokrovsk direction. Essentially, this area is currently holding under that name. Right now, the main task for the Ukrainian army is to hold back the enemy’s push from the north of Kurakhove, where Russian forces are trying to move west toward Andriivka. If they descend to Andriivka, the Russians could reach Kostiantynopil. This path creates additional risks for Ukraine's military. The Ukrainian Armed Forces must stop Russian forces here to prevent further advances," Zgurets said.
- On January 11, Russian forces advanced near several settlements in the Donetsk region.
- Captain Pavlo Lakiychuk noted that Russian troops are bypassing Pokrovsk from the south, aiming to cut logistics without engaging in urban battles.
- Later reports indicated that Russian forces are attempting to bypass the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration, with only about 2 kilometers remaining to reach the road.
