German defense committee chair suggests calling-up almost 1 million reserve troops due to Russian threat
The chair of the German parliament's defense committee (Bundestag), Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, proposed that 900,000 members of the military reserve are called up due to the threat from Russia
German media outlet Spiegel reported this on June 1.
The German official stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is gearing up his people for war and turning them against the West.
"Russia produces only weapons. They're printing school textbooks that paint Germany as the aggressor. Even elementary school kids are being taught how to handle weapons. It's all pretty alarming," emphasized Strack-Zimmermann.
Against this backdrop, the politician called for the mobilization of 900,000 reservists. Initially, according to Strack-Zimmermann, they need to be enrolled, as "the Bundeswehr hasn't registered retired soldiers for decades."
"We have to understand that the war in Ukraine directly impacts us. If Putin gets his way, he'll keep on attacking," the official emphasized.
