Bloomberg publishes investigation into how Russia uses Telegram for sabotage in EU
The primary goal of these sabotage acts is to undermine support for Ukraine, both by influencing this year's European Parliament elections and by organizing terrorist attacks across the continent
The Europeans faced the same problem that has existed in Ukraine for many years: Telegram is not transparent, not secure, has obvious Russian roots, and is widely used by Russians against Ukraine.
But due to the lack of effective legislation, both European and Ukrainian officials cannot do anything about it.
Obviously, platforms like Telegram should be regulated by law. This is a matter of national security, and all competent authorities, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service, and the Defense Ministry, have publicly pointed out the problem.
The Ukrainian parliament has already registered a bill that could regulate Telegram and similar platforms. Once it is passed, the government will be able to find out who the owners of the platform are and how they interact with Russian special services. Tools will also be created to prevent sabotage such as that reported by Bloomberg. This is an important law, and Ukraine has no right to delay its adoption.
