Ukraine's war-ending plan is strategy to insert talk about victory into U.S. election campaign - political expert
Political scientist Oleh Sahakian says that Ukraine's victory plan is the right strategy to which both Republicans and Democrats will have to respond
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"We should not expect any dramatic changes from today to tomorrow following Zelenskyy's visit to the United States with the victory plan. Biden will not take certain steps, as everyone understands that this is impossible until the end of the election campaign. Therefore, the focus is on October to December. It is during that period that there will be a window of opportunity, depending on which candidate wins, that could be beneficial for Biden to take decisive action in different modalities. If Trump wins, it will provide him with a corridor of action that he will not be able to easily escape from for a long time. This would contrast with how Biden acted, marking the final note in his political career and creating difficult conditions for Trump,” commented Oleg Sahakian.
According to him, if Kamala Harris wins, Biden may take some decisive steps to lay out a long-term strategy for the Democrats. This way, any previous criticisms of Biden can be addressed, allowing Harris, once in office, to claim she will take a different approach.
"To put it simply, this plan is a political strategy aimed at framing the conversation about victory in the U.S. election campaign. It’s designed to prompt presidential candidates to discuss their plans for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, whether they support Ukraine’s victory, and how they intend to achieve it. Essentially, it’s about setting an agenda that’s more favorable to us. If Ukraine doesn’t take this initiative, the dialogue will lean on Russian narratives and internal American fears. As a result, the focus will shift to lowering the stakes. I’m convinced that after these closed meetings, Ukraine will definitely reveal part or all of the victory plan. Following that, there will be a campaign to highlight and push this topic as part of the U.S. election campaign,” the political scientist said.
