West makes plans to avoid panic if Russia uses nuclear bomb in Ukraine
Western officials are engaged in "prudent planning" behind the scenes to prevent chaos in the event Russia was to detonate a nuclear bomb in or near Ukraine
This was reported by The Guardian.
A high-ranking Western official said on condition of anonymity that the West still considers a nuclear crisis "extremely unlikely" but that Western powers have decided to review plans to provide emergency aid and support to populations fearful of nuclear escalation.
The interlocutor of the journalists refused to say what exactly the measures are in question, but said that the governments of Western countries are engaged in "prudent planning in case of a number of possible scenarios."
In addition, he also emphasized that the Russian president's statements about the possible use of nuclear weapons are "extremely irresponsible", and their use "will violate the taboo that has existed since 1945" and "will lead to serious consequences for the Russian Federation".
As The Guardian reminds us, during the "Cold War" in the West, information campaigns about actions in the event of a nuclear conflict were often conducted, but they were often ridiculed because of the assumption that it is impossible to survive a nuclear war at all.
