Ukraine builds underground school in Kharkiv region, bordering Russia
A school is being built underground in the village of Korotych, Kharkiv district. The school will accommodate up to 500 children and teachers
This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.
"The protective structure in Korotych can simultaneously accommodate about 500 people, which corresponds to the number of students and teachers in the local secondary school. In addition, during air raid alarms, this shelter will be able to accommodate people from the neighboring kindergarten, offices and other institutions," he wrote.
According to him, the school underground will have several rooms, bathrooms, and three exits. The building will be equipped with an autonomous source of power.
According to the plan, the structure should be able to withstand a direct hit from an S-300 missile.
The cost of the works is UAH 99.1 million.
"In total, the state subvention for the construction of shelters for the Kharkiv region amounts to UAH 224.6 million. These funds will cover 31 facilities: construction, major repairs, and development of design estimates," Syniehubov wrote.
- Earlier media reported that in Kharkiv, 17 classrooms with air recovery and noise insulation, desks and necessary equipment were set up at 5 metro stations. In total, 60 groups of more than a thousand students were formed to study underground.
