Russia attacks Ukraine with drones, missiles: casualties reported in Kharkiv, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia

On February 1, Russian missile and drone strikes hit Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and Kharkiv, causing casualties and power outages

Attack on Zaporizhzhia

The head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, warned around 1 a.m. that the Russian aggressors were attacking the city with missiles. At 2:17 a.m., he said that the Russians had struck Zaporizhzhia with more than 10 missiles. 

“This is the most massive attack in recent times. We are investigating the consequences. Preliminarily, there were no casualties. All emergency services are on the ground,” he added. 

As of 2:29 a.m., there were reports of damage to private households: broken windows and damaged roofs. 

Later, Fedorov said that, according to preliminary information, the occupiers sent 16 drones to Zaporizhzhia. 

“The attack damaged an infrastructure facility, a multi-story building and private houses. More than 400 subscribers are without power,” he wrote. 

An educational institution was damaged as a result of the Russian attack. According to the updated information, a 57-year-old man was wounded in the attack on the town. Medics provided him with the necessary assistance. 

Later, Fedorov clarified that the Russians used 18 drones to attack Zaporizhzhia. He added that as of 4:56 a.m., power was restored. 

Hit in Kharkiv

At about 7:30 a.m., the head of the Kharkiv Military District Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported Russian hits in Kharkiv and Berestyn districts.

Later, the head of the regional military administration clarified that the hit occurred in the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv, within a residential area. There was a fire at the site of the hit. One woman was injured, according to doctors, she is in serious condition.

Later, the number of victims increased to five. Unfortunately, a woman of about 60 years old died as a result of the Russian attack. 

According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, one private house was partially destroyed as a result of a Shahed hit in the Kholodnohirskyi district. The fire, which was caused by the hit, was extinguished. Another 16 private houses were also damaged.

Damage to energy infrastructure and a blow to Poltava region

According to the Poltava Military Administration, the Russian aggressors attacked the region in the morning. There were no hits to civilian objects or casualties. 

At the same time, damage to the energy infrastructure was recorded in Myrhorod district. 164 households and one legal entity were left without electricity. The power company is working to restore power supply.

Due to the Russian attack, Ukrenergo introduced emergency blackouts in a number of regions. These are Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro regions.

In addition, later it became known that the Russian terrorrists had attacked Poltava, hitting a residential building. Rescuers and emergency services are now working at the scene. 

Later, the State Emergency Service said that the attack killed 3 people and injured 10 others, including a child. Emergency workers rescued 21 people.

The entrance from the 1st to the 5th floor was destroyed and a fire broke out. Neighboring houses and 12 cars were damaged.

Destruction in Kyiv region

Last night, during an air raid alert, air defense forces were active in the Kyiv region. According to the regional military administration, no critical infrastructure was hit, and there were no civilian casualties.

However, debris from a downed target caused a fire in a private house in the Boryspil district. The fire has already been extinguished.

Additionally, two more private houses, utility buildings, and a vehicle were damaged. Windows were shattered, and facades and roofs were pitted.

In the Fastiv district, debris caused a fire in a warehouse of a local enterprise, covering an area of 30 square meters. The fire was quickly extinguished.

  • On the evening of Friday, January 31, the occupying Russian army attacked Odesa.  The Russians attacked the historic center of the city with missiles, and there are victims.
