Ukraine became an EU candidate in record time, we should now move on to membership negotiations - Zelenskyу

Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the announcement during his speech in the Parliament on the occasion of Ukrainian Statehood Day.

"We applied to join the European Union and quickly became a candidate, under conditions that no other state had. This is our development. It is our friends, it's their help. It is our interests. This is Ukrainian speed - what we became capable of when we freed ourselves from illusions and achieved the historically greatest national unity," Zelenskyy said.

With the same speed, we must come to the beginning of negotiations regarding Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

"Everything we have to do for this, we will do. We will do it. Synchronize the legislation of Ukraine with the law of the European Union. We have created a plan for the implementation of all EU regulations and directives within the framework of the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union. This is actually a joint task for us, for you, dear deputies, and for the government of our country. And this corresponds to our new reality. The reality that the process of European integration has been transferred by us from the sphere of foreign policy to the sphere of domestic policy. This is where real work, real European integration starts," the president added.
