Safety at ZNPP can only be guaranteed by IAEA and international organizations - Fukushima University scientist Zhelezniak
Mark Zhelezniak, a scientist at the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity at Fukushima University, is convinced that only international organizations led by the IAEA can stabilize the situation around the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
He expressed this opinion on the air of the EspresoTV channel.
"I have more optimistic forecasts regarding the situation at the ZNPP. Today, diplomacy has become the art of opportunities. And for us, the IAEA is this opportunity, and there is also the UN General Assembly. Therefore, I believe that step by step, the IAEA and other international organizations will help us stabilize the situation around the Zaporizhzhya NPP," Zhelezniak explained.
The scientist also added that Ukraine is not yet ready to give up Russian fuel for nuclear power plants.
"We are entering the winter, which will not be easy. We use American fuel at the Zaporizhzhia and South Ukrainian NPPs, but the main fuel comes from Russia. And we are unlikely to be able to give up Russian fuel for our NPPs," he added.
