Russian military execute 61 Ukrainian defenders - Ukraine's Prosecutor General
Since February 24, 2022, Russian military have executed at least 61 Ukrainian prisoners of war, four Russian servicemen have been notified of suspicion, one prosecuted
Ukraine's Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin, reported the information.
He stated that Russian military tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war, kept them in inhumane conditions, starved them, denied medical care, and abused them for speaking Ukrainian language.
According to Kostin, 2,200 Ukrainian soldiers who were held captive in Russia have been recognized as victims so far. Over 500 of them testified to physical violence during interrogations, including electric shocks.
The Prosecutor General also said that at least 25 facilities in Russia have been identified where military personnel of the Ukrainian Defense Forces are systematically abused.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, 450 criminal proceedings have been registered on the facts of ill-treatment of prisoners of war. Also, 27 cases are being investigated into the execution of 61 Ukrainian defenders, and four Russian soldiers have been notified of suspicion. Two cases have been sent to court, and the first verdict has already been issued.
