Russia brings Chechen militants to occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant
Russia has brought Chechen militants to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. They set up a shooting range in one of the premises
The Center for National Resistance reports.
"Russians are using the seized nuclear power plant as a military base for their militants. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Enerhodar is home to Chechen units of the Russian Akhmat Guard (OMON and SOBR), which have set up a base at the plant. The Chechens have even set up a shooting range in one of the premises," the report says.
The presence of militants and military equipment at the station is explained by the Russians as allegedly protecting the facility, but in fact they are needed to patrol the city and use repression against Ukrainians.
As a reminder, Russia occupied the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in late February 2022. Since then, personnel and military equipment have been permanently stationed there, which the invaders store in the machine rooms and occasionally move to positions to shell the territories of the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
An IAEA monitoring mission is working at the plant to ensure that the plant is not used as a military base, that the plant is not attacked or fired upon, and that external power supplies are not interrupted. However, blackouts at the plant occur on a regular basis.
- Earlier, the IAEA Board of Governors voted overwhelmingly in favor of a draft resolution on nuclear safety, security and safeguards in Ukraine. It requires the return of Zaporizhzhia NPP to Kyiv's control.
