Russian troops opened artillery fire on the route that the IAEA mission was supposed to take to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The route had been agreed in advance.
This was announced by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Oleksandr Starukh in Telegram.
"The Russians are shelling a pre-agreed route of the IAEA mission from Zaporizhia to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Station. The UN advance group cannot continue moving for security reasons, " he wrote.
According to him, Ukraine continues to make efforts to organize safe access of the international IAEA mission to the nuclear power plant.
"We demand that the Russian Federation stop provocations and provide the IAEA with unhindered access to the Ukrainian nuclear facility," he added.
It is known that the Russian army has been shelling the occupied Energodar by machine guns and mortars since 5:00 a.m. on September 1, there are hits on civilian objects and victims.
On August 29, it became known that the IAEA mission was heading to Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Station.
This happened after the nuclear power plant in Energodar, seized on August 25, was disconnected from electricity for the first time in its history.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday, August 30, met with General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi in Kyiv. He expressed the hope that the IAEA mission will be able to start its work.
On the morning of August 31, the IAEA mission went from Kyiv towards Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Station.
Subsequently, the mission arrived at the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, 55 km from the station.
Russians, hinting that it would be faster through Russia, refused the IAEA missions to the station to get special passes so the latter were forced to wait in the general queue for entry to the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia.
On August 31, Ministry of energy discussed it with the IAEA and provided the mission with a list of technical and security indicators that are important for international experts to check during their visit to the station
